No more. After 6 years as a patient Patient, I won't accept Dr Postelmans brusk, cold and impersonal treatment any longer. I have met desk sergeant at police stations more humane and receptive than her overly controlling and passive aggressive bedside manner. One feels unwanted and unwelcome: as if I had wandered into her living room next door rather than remained in her sterile at home-clinic. There is minimal dialogue so I leave with half-answers and unfinished questions: and I am silly enough to pay and return (well, no not any longer). Consultation take 20 minutes or less (she aims for less) and cost €65 for a standard check-up. Level access, street parking at the adjacent property (her patients somehow dare not use her onsite parking). I have given 2-* because nobody doubts her medical credentials - but what good are such things when patients are unsettled from a visit?
Waiting for months, having to take half a day off work, notifying the school and arranging to pick up my six-year-old daughter, making the trip, arriving nine minutes late, receiving a cold reception, enduring reprimands, finally getting a first consultation cut short by ten minutes, having forgotten my daughter's ID card (optional at that age) and being refused the appointment—that's all been done. So yes, it's true that punctuality is the politeness of kings, that ophthalmology is in short supply, and that forgetfulness is a failing, but it's also true that it's illegal in Belgium to refuse access to care because of an unpresented ID card (Law of August 22, 2002, relating to patients' rights), that it costs nothing to be polite, and that it's cruel to tolerate no delays in a Brussels region where getting from point A to point B never takes the time you expect. All that wasted energy, only to reap a series of frustrations in the end. An experience diametrically opposed to the Hippocratic Oath.
Honestly, she's a good doctor, but it's a shame she's so cold and unsociable. She just wants to finish her work quickly, that's the impression I got. I think it's a shame she doesn't bother to look at the problem more thoroughly.
Highly competent ophthalmologist, but be aware there's a 4-month wait for an appointment.
Excellent doctor, very humane. Very professional.
