Seeing those five stars, I feel compelled to offer some counterpoint, something I normally don't do for doctors. In August 2019, I had a retinal detachment, which Dr. Breusegem treated and, as such, saved my eye (thank you). However, the surgery wasn't entirely successful because some oil had leaked under my conjunctiva (the white of my eye). We'd rather not see his reaction to this, and I didn't find him particularly engaging without further explanation. In terms of communication, Dr. Breusegem isn't exactly a high-flyer. Personally, I found him somewhat unworldly, rushed, and condescending, while such a vulnerable moment is precisely when you need open, human communication. After Dr. Breusegem's second surgery, I decided to change surgeons, after which I was treated correctly and humanely.
But what a huge disappointment. Eye Doctor Dr. Breusegem... utterly disgusting... he receives me far too late, apparently still having lunch, and I leave 12 minutes later, €65 less in my wallet for the same questions because I didn't get a single answer (he claims I should get that from the optician). When I ask my last question, he simply walks to the next patient, replying, "Good day, ma'am, and see you next time..." I doubt it.
If you are looking for an ophthalmologist who is not friendly, who gives you few explanations and who is very expensive, you have come to the right place!
