Always been a hospital close to the people but too small to specialize (e.g. cancers) > soon to be closed > many doctors have already cleared out their offices > the last one turns off the lights
Today I was at the hospital in Geraardsbergen for a minor procedure. I am very satisfied with the treatment I received from Dr. Potvlieghe. Despite the busy department, he took the time to explain the two options for the procedure and explained in detail what I should do at home afterward. The doctor was friendly, as were the nursing staff. Absolutely nothing but positive things to say!
Yesterday I was admitted to the hospital for surgery. The reception staff were very friendly, and the check-in on the 4th floor was also friendly and helpful, escorting me to the 5th floor on the right. I was given a neat, renovated single room. The nursing staff, both morning, afternoon, and evening (night) shifts, were incredibly kind and concerned about my concerns and pain; no question was too much for them. The same goes for the doctors and assistants in the intensive care unit. Thank you all for making me feel so at ease, and for making me feel I was in good hands. Respect to all of you!
Went to the emergency room in Geraardsbergen today. I just got back from a long trip with a flight of over 17 hours. On the outbound flight, I felt severe pain in my calf upon arrival, and I initially thought I had a torn muscle. Afterwards, I was told there was a very high chance I had a blood clot, which could lead to a pulmonary embolism or worse. I wanted reassurance, but it turned out an ultrasound wasn't possible on the weekend, and I was practically ridiculed by a rather sarcastic doctor. I was told that they're not there to reassure people when there was no one in the waiting room, and they were spouting nonsense about Egypt and Africa... well, they had time for that. In other words, I'm not reassured; I have to wait until Monday to see my doctor and hope I don't have any problems in the meantime. Anyway... a very bad experience. If the future ultrasound shows that I actually did have a thrombosis, I'll file a complaint!
Very disappointed!! I went to the emergency room because I had trouble breathing, was coughing a lot, and was coughing up a lot of phlegm. The doctor didn't even examine my mouth. He just prescribed a puff and some syrup! If you have an emergency, don't go to this hospital!
